Why Wellness?

“Wellness” is so much more than a buzzword. It is a conscious choice to maintain physical, mental and emotional health in order to attain better outcomes. The Global Wellness Institute defines wellness as the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health. Think about it as not just surviving, but thriving. Wellness is ageless and encompasses several different strategies for overall health and well-being.

Physical wellness includes a combination of preventative medicine, movement, healthy eating, and proper sleep. All of these elements work together to keep your physical body well. Preventative medicine can include annual physicals, dental care, eye exams, and don’t forget your ears. Yes, yearly hearing screenings are just as important as dental cleanings and eye exams!

Mental and emotional wellness is just as important as physical wellness. Similar to physical wellness, proper sleep can help with emotional wellness. Reducing stress, being mindful, positive thinking, and strengthening social connections are all proven strategies to help elevate mental and emotional wellness overall. Isolation can contribute to serious health issues, so don’t underestimate the impact of time well spent around others!

Why so much focus on wellness? Because our health and well-being depend on it. It is important to take care of our minds and bodies on a regular basis. “If you don't make time for your wellness, you will be forced to make time for your illness.” -Unknown
