Three Masonicare Nurses Named Recipients of 2019 Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing

WALLINGFORD – Friday, May 3, 2019 – Masonicare announced that three of its nurses have been honored as recipients of the 2019 Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing. Dawoo Tso, Amanda Sorrentino and Ida Diaz, received the statewide honor last night at the annual Nightingale Banquet at Anthony's Ocean View in New Haven.

Dawoo Tso, an LPN who works at Masonicare Health Center, recently helped care for a short-term rehab patient with dementia whose family was very concerned about finding the right place for the patient's rehab stay.

"The patient and family had a successful rehab experience largely because Dawoo set the caring tone," said Gail Kallinich, a social worker at Masonicare Health Center. "She is the consummate professional and the epitome of a memory care nurse."

Amanda Sorrentino, RN, BSN, CWOCN, is a wound care specialty nurse with Masonicare Home Health & Hospice (MHHH), and has been instrumental in organizing and developing MHHH's quarterly wound and ostomy educational programs that have enhanced and elevated the agency's clinical practices.

"Amanda demonstrates a calming and knowledgeable presence in all her patient care interactions," said Helene Vieira, MHHH's Regional Director of Clinical Services. "She puts her patients at ease, promotes a positive self-body image, and helps to restore her patient's dignity after undergoing ostomy placement."

Ida Diaz, LPN, is a nurse at Immanuel House in Hartford, where Masonicare provides assisted living services. Her clients say they are comfortable speaking with her and have confidence that she will follow through when she promises to address their concerns.

"Ida's clients frequently come to the nursing office specifically seeking Ida because they know she's familiar with their medication regime and that she's a problem-solver," said Janice Gibson, her supervisor at Immanuel House. "Ida's as reliable as they come."

Masonicare is Connecticut's largest non-profit provider of senior care, providing a full continuum of care to residents and patients which includes independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, home health care and home hospice care. The Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing is statewide nursing recognition program is open to full or part-time RNs and LPNs.
