Email This Article(Wallingford, CT) May 2, 2024 – Masonicare is proud to announce the successful completion of the 5th year of the Quinnipiac University Students in Residence Program. This unique program is designed to integrate college students into our assisted living community to live, work, and interact with residents for the duration of an academic year.
This pioneering endeavor is a testament to Masonicare’s commitment to fostering intergenerational connections and providing enriching experiences for both residents and students. Through this program, we aim to create a vibrant, inclusive environment that promotes lifelong learning and meaningful relationships.
Key features of the Students in Residence Program include:
- Living among Residents: College students reside within the assisted living community, offering them the opportunity to immerse themselves fully in the daily life of our residents. This arrangement encourages organic interactions and facilitates the development of genuine relationships.
- Work Experience: Students participate in various aspects of community life, including assisting with recreational activities, providing companionship to residents, and supporting staff members as needed. This firsthand experience not only enhances their interpersonal skills but also provides valuable insights into the field of senior care.
- Academic Integration: The Students in Residence Program is designed to complement students' academic pursuits. Participants can engage in reflective learning experiences, seminars, and projects that explore topics related to aging, healthcare, and community engagement.
- Community Engagement: Beyond their roles within the assisted living community, students also are encouraged to participate in community outreach initiatives and collaborative projects with local organizations. This holistic approach fosters a sense of civic responsibility and empowers students to make a positive impact beyond our walls.
"We are thrilled with the success of our Students in Residence Program which welcomes a diverse group of college students into our community," said Rachael Laudano, executive director at Masonicare at Ashlar Village Assisted Living. "This innovative initiative aligns with our mission to create an inclusive environment where individuals of all ages can thrive. We look forward to the enriching experiences and meaningful connections that will emerge from this program in the future."
