Masonicare Pilot Finds Success in Improving Memory Care Resident Outcomes, Reducing Staff Burden With Passive Light Therapy

A light therapy pilot study produced “promising and compelling” results in improving memory care resident outcomes and reducing the burden on staff members, providing a passive, non-pharmacologic intervention, according to memory care community Masonicare at Mystic in Mystic, CT.

The community, in partnership with Optoceutics, in fall 2025 conducted a six-week pilot test of EVY Light Therapy, which uses 40 Hz gamma flicker light technology to engage brainwave activity associated with memory, focus and overall cognitive function. Masonicare was one of the first senior living organizations in the country to test the emerging light therapy concept in a real-world setting.
