This month Chef Jules is joined by Ashlar Village Executive Chef, Steve Hendrickson, as well as several residents as they prepare for the annual 'Mothers & Others' Luncheon to honor the ladies in their lives. Jenny Starr has been a Registered Dietitian for 12 years and received her Bachelors of Science with a Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics through the University of New Haven and completed her dietetic internship through the University of St. Joseph's in West Hartford.


Her career has consisted of working with all age groups and diverse backgrounds spanning from childhood nutrition to long term care senior nutrition. She has served on the board as treasurer for two years with Connecticut's Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She has also appeared on local media stations sharing the message of good nutrition for children and adults.


Jenny has been employed by Morrison Community Living, a leading national hospitality and nutrition management company, for 10 years. She has been partnering with Masonicare Health Center's  Dining Services department for over seven years and has been recently given the title of Assistant Director of Dining & Clinical Nutrition Services. Her desire to share practical nutrition and wellness choices continues to be a growing passion as the economy and media challenge the everyday consumer.


We're celebrating Heart Month with simple recipes that incorporate oats into your diet to lower bad cholesterol and help fight the risk of heart disease.

About Chef Jules Martin:


Jules Martin, Masonicare's "Chef Jules" has always been curious about food and flavors. "My mother and grandmother always made great food." Jules remembers. "Working in my grandmother's garden and kitchen during summer vacation, I learned the importance of fresh food and classic cooking techniques. I think that's where I first learned that 'food is memory." 


A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Chef Jules brings his skill and love of great food and culinary management to residents of Masonicare at Ashlar Village in his role as Director of Dining Services. "I am privileged to give something back to the people who have given their lives to building this country and deserve to be treated well now. My goal is to provide good meals that taste good and consistently enhance the excellence of our kitchen."


And now as the host of Cooking with Chef Jules, he is able to share many of the same delicious and healthy recipes he prepares at Masonicare at Ashlar Village.  Chef Jules couldn't be more excited about this new series.  "I have one of the best jobs in the world.  After all, eating is one of the great pleasures in life and making people happy in this way is always a treat for me!"
