A co-payment is a set payment made at the time a service is received. Co-payments can vary greatly among insurance plans, so check with your provider to find out how much you may have to pay.

Yes, all billable services provided to our residents/patients will be submitted to our contracted insurance carriers. It is important that you provide accurate and complete demographic and insurance information at the time of registration. Masonicare will submit bills to your insurance company and will do everything possible to process your claim. However, it may become necessary for you to contact your insurance company or supply additional information to expedite payment.

We remind patients that they are ultimately responsible for their bill. An insurance authorization is not a guarantee of payment. The explanation of benefits provided separately by your insurance company will detail the amount you owe to Masonicare.

Yes, Masonicare will work with you to establish a payment plan within a 12 month period.

Yes - Masonicare has a financial hardship policy for the ACUTE, GMP Hospital and Clinic only. Please refer to Hospital Care for Seniors for our policy, plain language summary and application. 

The cost to live at most assisted living communities is usually based on two things, the price of the apartment you chose, and your individualized care plan which details the care you will receive from our nursing staff.

Our base rate in assisted living and memory care includes three meals a day, housekeeping, an emergency safety alert system, transportation to local doctor’s appointments, and a variety of daily activities.

Many state and federal programs offer financial assistance for various senior living expenses. For example, the “Aid and Attendance Program,” may help both veterans and their spouses with the cost of Assisted Living. Some long-term insurance policies may also cover part or all of the costs for assisted living, skilled nursing and home care services.

At Masonicare’s Retirement Communities in Wallingford and Chester, residents pay an entrance fee and a monthly fee based on the type of accommodation they choose and whether the resident is a single person or part of a couple. The entrance fee has a declining refund over a period of years.

No. There are a limited number of independent living apartment homes available as rentals. And all of our assisted living apartments and studios are strictly rental.

There is a residential counselor who would work closely with you to help customize your requests; anything from assisting with insurance to receiving care services.

Continuing Care Retirement/Life Plan Communities (CCRC) are residential communities that allow seniors to “age-in place” and provide a continuum of care – from independent living to assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing. Our CCRC communities – Masonicare at Ashlar Village and Masonicare at Chester Village – offer seniors a fulfilling and active lifestyle, coupled with the assurance and peace of mind that extra assistance and senior health care will be provided as needed.​

The minimum age for residency is 55.​​​

Independent living has been designed to support active, comfortable lifestyles for today’s seniors. It provides services that free you from heavy housekeeping, food preparation, yard work and home maintenance. Our Masonicare communities also offer many social, cultural and recreational activities for your enjoyment and pleasure.

CCRC residents do not purchase an accommodation as in a real-estate transaction. Instead, they pay a one-time entrance fee and a monthly fee based on the size and amenities of the accommodation. Masonicare at Mystic is not a CCRC but a monthly rental community offering independent living, assisted living and memory care options. Ashlar Village, a CCRC, also offers a limited number of independent living monthly rental apartments on campus.

We offer two refund options: a standard 8-year declining refund or a guaranteed refund. Our marketing department would be happy to review this with you in greater detail.

Assisted living is a special combination of residential housing, personalized supportive services and senior health care designed to meet the needs of residents who need help with the activities of daily living, but do not need nursing care. Friendly, trained staff members are available 24-hours a day to help with meals, dressing, personal hygiene and medications.​

Residents use their personal funds to cover all costs for assisted living. Some people have a long-term care insurance reimbursement or receive Aid and Attendance stipends from the Veterans Association to help cover this cost, if eligible.

Yes, monthly fees increase annually. As a not-for-profit retirement living organization, we work hard to keep these increases to a minimum, while maintaining the quality and excellence that our residents have come to expect.

Yes, pets are allowed with some options specific to the community. Please contact us for more information.   

Masonicare offers a secure memory care neighborhood in our Ashlar Village and Mystic communities. These communities are specially designed for those with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s and other dementias within an assisted living environment. We also offer additional services in all our communities through our homemaking and companionship agency, Masonicare at Home.

All areas of Masonicare communities are smoke-free.

No. We are open to all individuals with or without Masonic affiliation.​​​

There are two types of home care:

  • Medical home health care - this service is provided by visiting nurses, therapists and others, and is generally covered by Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance. Masonicare provides this care through Masonicare Home Health.
  • Non-medical assistance - this service is provided by homemaker companions, personal care attendants and live-ins. Masonicare provides this assistance on a private pay basis through Masonicare at Home.
     

No, patients can get home care wherever they call home- a house, apartment, family member’s residence, senior living community or assisted living facility.

Medical home health care is often utilized after patients are discharged from a hospital or nursing facility.  It can also be used when a patient has a significant change in their medical condition.  Medical home health care must be ordered by a physician who will oversee a patient’s plan of care.  You have a right to choose what agency you’d like to provide this care for you- just let your doctor or discharge planner know your preference.

Medicare patients receiving home health care must be considered homebound- however, this doesn’t mean that you can’t leave the house at all.  You are allowed to leave your home for short durations if it’s a considerable taxing effort that requires assistance.  Instances such as attending doctor’s appointments, religious services, trips to the barber, etc. are allowed as well.  Your home health nurse or therapist will assess your homebound status.

No, since no medical care is provided, patients and family members can simply call and initiate services on their own.

Masonicare offers a variety of services, such as Short-Term Rehabilitation, Long Term Care and Memory Care.

Short-Term Rehab is ideal for people who are discharging from the hospital after an illness, injury or surgery, but aren’t ready to return home just yet. Short-Term Rehab provides a higher level of support that includes 24 hour nursing and 7 day-a-week therapy. The focus is on regaining your independence so you’ll have a smooth transition home and to reduce your risk of rehospitalization.

Long-Term Care may be the answer when a loved one needs more ongoing assistance than can be provided in the home. We develop an individualized care plan for each of our Long-Term Care residents based on their unique needs - medical, social, emotional and spiritual.

Our secure Memory Care units provide a safe environment for those with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Residents receive personalized attention from a staff specially trained in memory support.

Yes, it’s your right to decide where you’d like to go. Talk to your hospital discharge planner and let them know you’d like to have your rehab at Masonicare.

Insurance plans vary, but in most cases STR is covered following a qualifying hospital stay. Masonicare is Medicare and Medicaid certified, and accepts most commercial insurance plans.

The Masonicare Annual Appeal through The Masonic Charity Foundation of Connecticut is inclusive of the important work of Masonicare Hospice. Your gift to the Annual Appeal not only benefit hospice patients, but allow you to honor or memorialize a loved one who received hospice care. Our team will send a letter to a family member letting him or her know you made a tribute donation. Of course, all donation amounts are kept confidential.
