East Hartford, CT, April 8, 2013….. On April 3, officials and employees of Masonicare gathered in the Founders Plaza headquarters of Masonicare Partners Home Health & Hospice to celebrate a milestone – the fifth anniversary of the successful partnership they formed five years ago with St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center.
The alliance, which began operations in late 2007, was dedicated to expanding and strengthening home health care and hospice services provided to residents in greater Hartford. This new entity, originally known as Connecticut VNA Partners, is now Masonicare Partners Home Health & Hospice.
Carolyn Reid, Co-Executive Director of Masonicare Partners, explained, “This unique collaboration served as an opportunity for growth for both organizations and allowed us to provide new and expanded services to a larger number of patients while adding depth to our services.”
Masonicare Partners employs 287 people, and during the past five years, their caregivers have traveled an amazing 5.4 million miles to bring home care and hospice services to 18,000 patients in homes, hospitals and other facilities throughout greater Hartford and surrounding communities. The organization is pleased to note that since 2008, 12 of their outstanding nurses have received Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing.
When the Affordable Care Act is fully implemented, it’s expected that more healthcare services than ever before will be delivered to patients in their homes. Home health programs and services provided by Masonicare Partners include skilled nursing care, intravenous therapy services, a wound care program, physical, occupational and speech therapy, medical social services, and nutritional counseling. And in 2009, Masonicare partnered with Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center to create a successful program that has helped reduce hospital readmission rates for patients with congestive heart failure.
Masonicare’s hospice services include home- or facility-based care, pediatric palliative care, inpatient care, pain management and symptom control, nutritional counseling, psychosocial and spiritual support for patients and families, medical social services, and bereavement support for families.
Wallingford-based Masonicare is Connecticut’s leading not-for-profit provider of healthcare and retirement living for seniors. Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, founded in 1871, is a major teaching hospital and the largest Catholic hospital in New England.
