Masonicare Partners Home Health & Hospice and Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center Sponsoring Hospice Information Program October 31

Hartford, CT, October 1, 2013………….Masonicare Partners Home Health & Hospice and Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center are co-sponsoring an informative event entitled “Walking the Journey with You.”  The event, which is open to the community and to healthcare professionals, will be held on Thursday, October 31, from 10 am to 2 pm in the St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center Patient Care Tower Rotunda, 114 Woodland Street in Hartford.  The event is being held in recognition of National Hospice and Palliative Care Month and to highlight and celebrate the important services and compassionate care hospice provides to patients and families everywhere.

There will be a variety of information tables, where attendees will have the opportunity to meet and talk with hospice nurses, social workers and hospice volunteers, enjoy live music, and meet some of the hospice therapy pets.  The event will also feature complimentary hand massages and entry to win free raffle prizes. In addition, there will be three free educational seminars held in the adjacent Chawla Auditorium.  If you would like to attend any or all of the free seminars listed below, please call 860-727-5430 to confirm your attendance at one or all of the seminars:

10:30 am:  The Difficult Conversations:  How I Talk to My Patients About End-of-   

 Life Issues —  Edmund A. Kim, MD, Hospice Medical Director, Interim Medical Director –  Family Medicine Center at Asylum Hill

12 noon:  Consider the Conversation: A Documentary on a Taboo Subject – Hospice Bereavement & Counseling Team – A video conversation about changing the commonly held American attitude that views end of life as a failed medical event to one that sees it as a normal process rich in opportunity for human development and inspiring dialog to occur

1:30 pm:   Veteran Benefits: What are my Options as a Veteran Facing End-of-Life Decisions – K. Robert Lewis, The American Legion Department Service Officer.
