Wallingford, CT, September 17, 2013…….A love of learning and a passion for nursing are common bonds shared by this year’s recipients of Masonicare’s prestigious Norma J. Brandt Nursing Scholarship. A luncheon and reception honoring the 2013 recipients was held August 23 at Masonicare at Ashlar Village in Wallingford.
The Norma J. Brandt Scholarship Fund was established in 2006 through a generous gift to The Masonic Charity Foundation of Connecticut from John O. Brandt, Jr. of Pomfret Center in memory of his wife, Norma, a registered nurse who loved nursing and dedicated her life to helping others. Mr. Brandt is a Mason from Putnam Lodge No. 46 in South Woodstock.
The scholarship provides individuals pursuing a career in nursing with financial assistance towards their coursework. The Brandt Scholarship program is helping more nursing students each year, growing from one recipient in 2006 to a total of 12 new and continuing recipients in 2013.
The recipients of the 2013 Brandt Scholarship are: Masonicare Health Center employees Christina Curtiss of Wallingford, Kelly Fayad of Naugatuck, Alyssa Jones of Meriden, and Thomas Murray of Cheshire; Masonicare Home Health & Hospice employee Nicole Searfass of Cheshire; and Alexis Martowski of Durham and Lindsay Miller of Jewett, NY.
In addition, previous recipients of Brandt scholarships received additional funding for the coming academic year. They are Casey Fiola of Pawcatuck, Brianna Grills of Waterford, Stephen Murphy of Southington, Nikki Stone of Wallingford, and Carla White of Waterbury.
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be a Masonicare employee, the child or grandchild of a Masonicare employee, or be affiliated with a Masonic organization, either as a member or as a child or grandchild of a member. Recipients must be committed to the nursing profession and emulate Norma’s “love of nursing, positive attitude and warm, giving nature.”
