Masonicare Names 2012 Norma J. Brandt Nursing Scholarship Recipients – Pomfret Center Resident Established Scholarship in Memory of his Wife

Wallingford,CT, September 19, 2012…….A love of learning and a passion for nursing are common bonds shared by this year’s recipients of Masonicare’s prestigious Norma J. Brandt Nursing Scholarship.  A luncheon and reception honoring the 2012 recipients was held August 24 at Masonicare at AshlarVillage in Wallingford.

The Norma J. Brandt Scholarship Fund was established in 2006 through a generous gift to The Masonic Charity Foundation of Connecticut from John O. Brandt, Jr. of Pomfret Center in memory of his wife, Norma, a registered nurse who loved nursing and dedicated her life to helping others.  Mr. Brandt is a Mason from Putnam Lodge No. 46 inSouth Woodstock. The scholarship provides individuals pursuing a career in nursing with financial assistance towards their coursework.  The Brandt Scholarship program is helping more nursing students each year, growing from one recipient in 2006 to a total of 13 new and continuing recipients in 2012.

The recipients of the 2012 Brandt Scholarship are:  Aimie Angeletti of Wallingford, an employee of Masonicare Health Center; David Edman of Southington; Casey Fiola of Pawcatuck; Brianna Grills of Waterford; and Ana Quintana of Waterbury, Maria Warcholik of Seymour, and Carla White of Waterbury, Masonicare at Newtown employees.

In addition, previous recipients of Brandt scholarships received additional funding for the coming academic year.  They are Carolann Mora of Danbury, Jacqueline Murillo of Middlebury, Stephen Murphy of Southington, Alyssa Nadolny of Wallingford, Nikki Stone of Wallingford and Vania Violante of Wolcott.       

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be a Masonicare employee, the child or grandchild of a Masonicare employee, or be affiliated with a Masonic organization, either as a member or as a child or grandchild of a member.  Recipients must be committed to the nursing profession and emulate Norma’s “love of nursing, positive attitude and warm, giving nature.”
