Masonicare Home Health & Hospice Presents Hospice Volunteer Dr. Gil L’Italien of Deep River with DOVE Award

June 11, 2013

DOVE - D'ItalienWallingford, CT, June 11, 2013…….In celebration of National Volunteer Week, Masonicare Home Health & Hospice honored hundreds of community volunteers who cumulatively contributed thousands of volunteer hours to the hospice program during the past year.  Awards were presented at special recognition events held at several office throughout Connecticut.

Staff and volunteers of the Wallingford office gathered to celebrate their hospice volunteers and thank them for the care and dedication they bring to patients and the hospice team.  This year’s theme was, “Kindness blooms in the hearts of our volunteers.”

Dr. Gil L’Italien of Deep River received the highly regarded Dedicated to Outstanding Volunteer Excellence (D.O.V.E.) award.  The office gives the D.O.V.E. award yearly to one volunteer who exhibits exceptional dedication to the program and exemplifies the true spirit of hospice care.

Jolan Szollosi, volunteer coordinator for the Wallingford hospice team, praised Dr. L’Italien for his dedication and commitment to the hospice program.  “Gil has been a volunteer for the Wallingford hospice team since 2002, and his commitment and passion for hospice has blossomed throughout the years.   As a hospice volunteer, Gil is professional, very genuine, very patient, and an all-around nice guy, with a way about him that puts others at ease.  He is very passionate about hospice, and even with his very busy work schedule, he always finds time to visit his patients.”

When asked to comment on his volunteer experiences over the last 11 years, Gil said, “When I volunteer, I’m there for no other reason than to share a smile or a laugh, a word of encouragement, to show that I care.  The miracle of being a volunteer is that I receive far more than I give.  It has made me more human, more caring of my family, more generous to others.  For me, volunteering is like breathing – I could not live fully without that experience.”
