Newtown, CT, June 19, 2012 . . . . ..On Thursday evening, June 28, Masonicare Home Health & Hospice and Hewitt Health & Rehab will be co-sponsoring an informational program for family caregivers and individuals from the community entitled “Hospice and Hope: Dispelling the Myths.” The program, which is free and will include a complimentary light dinner, will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hewitt Health & Rehab Center, 45 Maltby Street in Shelton.
Hospice professionals from Masonicare and the Newtown@ Brookfield office of Masonicare Home Health and Hospice will offer an open panel discussion to explain how hospice and palliative care services can complement the care of a patient or loved one diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. Some of the topics to be discussed include the importance of palliative care (pain management); how medical direction by a physician helps provide individualized care; the role of the social worker in hospice care; the importance of nurse case management and education; the important role hospice volunteers and expressive art therapy play in providing comfort and support for patients and families; and how spiritual guidance can help bring hope and comfort to the terminally ill and their families.
