Opening Reception July 17 at Real Art Ways
The Hospice Team at East Hartford-based Masonicare Partners Home Health & Hospice offers Expressive Arts to enhance the quality of life for patients and families receiving hospice care. Their traveling art exhibit, Completing the Journey, has been shown at Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center as well as numerous nursing and rehab facilities throughout the greater Hartford area.
Featuring the work of patients, families, caregivers and volunteers, Completing the Journey has become an important part of The Ellipses Project. The Ellipses Project was designed by Assistant Professor Cat Balco at University of Hartford’s School of Art. Over the course of two years, Balco’s students worked with patients and the Hospice Team at Masonicare Partners to explore the use of art and creativity to face a difficult and oft-avoided topic: end-of-life.
The resulting exhibit will be featured in a special Ellipses Project exhibit at Real Art Ways, 36 Arbor Street, Hartford, July 16 – August 8. There will be an opening reception Thursday, July 17 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. which is free. Otherwise, there is a nominal $3 admission charge.
Support for the exhibition includes funding from the Connecticut Office of the Arts. For more information, go to www.realartways.org.
